In the world of schooling fish one of the most impressive sights is big gatherings of scalloped hammerheads. These schools composed mostly of adolescent females appear during day time for the reasons not completely understood by science - but it is believed that it's some form of social interaction for the sharks. During night these schools break up - sharks follow their individual paths for hunting. But with sunrise pattern of mass gathering repeats again. Big schools of hammerheads are prominent in Galapagos Archipelago and Cocos Island, but can be found in many other places in the world, like Japan or South Africa. Picture above is new edit of image I took in 2007 during my trip to the magic Cocos Island. It was taken during moment when school was changing it's direction abruptly - hence scattered appearance of individual sharks each facing different direction.

Today is the day of Mid-Autumn Festival - one of the most important holidays in Chinese calendar. So I wish great celebration and a lot of fun to all my friends in Hong Kong and other parts of the world - enjoy your mooncakes ! :-)
